Kathmandu Kickers Win INDO-NEPAL Football Championship 2026
Kathmandu Kickers emerged champions of the Indo-Nepal Football Championship 2026, securing a thrilling 6-5 victory on penalties against Jawalakhel Youth Club after a 1-1 draw in the final.
The championship match was held at DAV Sushil Kedia Vishwa Bharati School, where both teams delivered a competitive and balanced performance. After finishing level at 1-1 in regular time, the title was decided through a tense penalty shootout, with Kathmandu Kickers holding their nerve to clinch the trophy.
Tournament Journey
The first International Indo-Nepal Football Championship began on 10th February 2026 at the DAV School premises in Jawalakhel. Organized on the occasion of the 202nd birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the tournament featured eight football academies and clubs from Nepal and India.
In the group stage, Jawalakhel Youth Club topped Group A, while Kathmandu Kickers finished as runners-up. Earlier in the competition, Kickers recorded strong performances, including victories over DAV Sports Academy and Holivision Football Academy to secure their place in the knockout rounds.
The tournament included participation from clubs such as Bolpur Town Club (West Bengal, India), Mario Grassroots Club, AG-10 Football Academy, Dilip Memorial Football Academy, and others, reflecting the cross-border football collaboration between Nepal and India.
A Memorable Final
The final showcased determination and discipline from both sides. After an evenly contested 90 minutes ending 1-1, the match moved into penalties. Kathmandu Kickers converted six spot kicks to seal a 6-5 shootout win, marking a significant achievement in the club’s competitive journey.
